Knockhill Mini date for Oliposted in MINI01 | 09 | 2011

EDINBURGH'S MULTIPLE British Mini Cooper champion, Oli Mortimer, will oversee the four-car assault of Aberdeen-based Celtic Speed in this weekend's Scottish Mini Cooper Championship at Knockhill.

Mortimer, who along with Tynecastle Garage boss Dave Kerr will prepare the cars, will also coach the team's four drivers.

In addition to Aberdeen duo Daniel Dreelan and Steve Kerr, Celtic Speed will also have 22-year-old Edinburgh racer Stephanie McMurdo, and Galashiels' Jamie Cleland in its cars.

Cleland, the son of former double British Touring Car Champion John Cleland, finished third last time out in the Mini at Knockhill.

And the opportunity to spend time with the Mini team is something Mortimer is looking forward too.

"I'm racing in the Porsche GT3 Cup this year, and I'm leading the series with just one meeting to go," Mortimer explained today, "so it's good to get back to working with the Mini team.

"Normally Celtic Speed would prepare the cars themselves, but because they also run three cars in the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship — which also takes place at Knockhill this weekend — they asked Dave, Tynecastle Garage and myself to help out.

"It's great to be part of the Celtic Speed team and to be working at Knockhill this weekend on what is the circuit's busiest three days of the year."

The Celtic Speed Mini Cooper Cup forms part of the support package of races for this weekend's main event, the annual visit of the British Touring Car Championship to Knockhill.

Edinburgh's David Sleigh heads into this weekend's rounds in Fife leading the Scottish Mini Championship 19 points ahead of Aberdeen's Vic Covey.
