BMW iX M60 EV gets 611bhp 05 | 01 | 2022

THINK ELECTRIC CARS are dull? Well how about 611bhp, a monstrous 1100Nm of torque, dual-motor four-wheel drive, 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds, a limited top speed of 155mph and a range of 357 miles? That’s what you get from BMW’s iX M60 super-SUV. Oh! It will though set you back £111,905.  (Related: BMW reveals iX all-electric flagship)

Targeting the Tesla Model X, the BMW iX M60 — which goes on-sale in the summer — not only sits above the iX xDrive50, which costs £20,000 less, but has a 31mph higher top speed. It does though see range drop from the xDrive50’s 380-mile official figure to a claimed 357. Still mighty impressive for such  monstrously large car. (Related: All-electric BMW i4 prices and spec)

BMW has yet to confirm what size of battery the M60 will have, but it’s pretty safe to assume it’ll use the same 71kWh unit as fitted to other models in the iX range. And again it will be sandwiched in the car’s floor.

Also like other iX models, the M60 uses a blend of aluminium and carbon fibre in its structure to help offset the big EV’s weight and improved agility. The new version also benefits from an air suspension system which will sharpen up the iX M60’s handling. (Related: BMW iX3 all-electric SUV)

In addition to the mechanical tweaks, the iX M60 gains a number of design changes to set it apart from the rest of the iX range. There’s Titanium Bronze detailing on the kidney grilles and M badges, plus Blue M-branded brake callipers tucked behind the SUV’s 22-inch alloys.

Inside the cabin there’s Suite Natural leather upholstery, soft-close doors, ventilated and massaging seats, BMW’s Heat Comfort package, and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond stereo. (Related: Bold huge grille for new BMW 4 Series)

The iDrive 8 infotainment system — which made its debut on the iX — is also fitted to the M60. Contained within a single curved panel mounted on the dashboard, it combines a 12.3-inch digital dash panel with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen. The latter can also be operated by a rotary controller on the centre console.

Included in the iDrive 8 is 5G connectivity, BMW’s Digital Key Plus, — which replaces the conventional key with your smartphone — and an augmented reality navigation system.

Elsewhere, the M60 also benefits from BMW’s Laserlight headlights, the carmaker’s Parking Assistant Plus package and an interior camera.
