Face-lifted SsangYong pick-up on sale 01 | 10 | 2021

SSANGYONG HAS LAUNCHED an updated version of its Musso pick-up truck as it bids to remain competitive with the like son the best-selling Ford Ranger, and the Toyota Hilux. Prices for the revised Musso start at £23,495 (excl VAT).

The majority of the upgrades are cosmetic, and include a slatted chrome radiator grille, a new front bumper with upright fog lamps, and a selection of new 18in alloys for the top-end Saracen model. (Related: SsangYong boost for Scots project)

Power comes from the same 178bhp turbocharged 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine as found in the outgoing model. It delivers 420Nm of torque. According to SsangYong, that makes the Musso capable of covering 0-62mph in 11.3secs when mated to the standard six-speed manual gearbox. That rises to 11.9s for the optional six-speed auto ‘box.

Worth highlighting the Musso is capable of towing a 3.5-tonne trailer while carrying a one tonne payload in the bed. Unladen, it’s quoted a returning up to 29.5mpg on the WLTP cycle; that’s aided by an adaptive four-wheel drive system that only feeds power to the front wheels when it detects a loss of traction.
