Ferrari 250 GT SWB reimagined 13 | 05 | 2021

THE FERRARI 250 GT SWB has been reborn for the modern day. Well that’s the claim by engineering team RML Group. Named the RML Short Wheelbase, the car is a modern take on Ferrari’s classic V12 grand tourer. (Related: Ferrari 812 Competizione)

The good news is it’s powered by Ferrari’s 5.4-litre V12, producing 478bhp and 419lb/ft. Power is sent to the rear wheels via the Maranello company’s open-gated six-speed manual transmission. (Related: Ferrari 812 Superfast Versione Speciale)

As for performance, RML says it’s ‘ample’. In real terms that equates to 0-60mph arriving in 4.1 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 185mph. So it’s no slouch. (Related: Salon Prive — Supercar super-day)

The RML Short Wheelbase has all-carbonfibre bodywork, shaped to look just like the 1959 250 GT SWB original, with the aggressive grille and stacked rear lights being crafted in-house. It is though slightly larger than the original, measuring 4264mm (including bumpers), and 1954mm wide.

Inside the cabin, RML says it will accommodate occupants up to 6ft 6ins tall. And they’ll be able to enjoy a raft of modern technology, including satnav, air conditioning and smartphone connectivity, plus small infotainment screen that can run Apple CarPlay. There’s even cupholders. (Related: Ferrari 488 GT Modificata)

Set to go on sale in the final quarter of this year, only a limited production of around 30 cars will be made. Price? No figure has been confirmed, but I suspect if you need to ask … you can’t afford it. But think seven figures.
