THIS IS THE new special edition Volkswagen T-Cross Black Edition. Available now, priced from £21,035 — which is only £500 more than the SE variant on which it’s based — VW says the car carries upgrades which would be worth more than £2000 if they were specified individually. The upgrades include 17-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and black replacements for the crossover’s grille, bumper trim and door mirror caps, plus LED headlights. Inside the cabin, buyers get black dashboard trim, sports seats and a fresh set of floor mats.

The Black Edition also includes the standard kit normally found in the SE spec, including blind spot monitoring and lane-keep assist, plus adaptive cruise control. However VW has also included front and rear parking sensors as part of the upgrade. (Related: VW Nivus gets Europe green light)

There are also a number of options which can be added to the Black Edition, including a 300-watt, six-speaker stereo system by Beats (£445), a digital gauge cluster (£385) and two-zone climate control (£875). (Related: Review — VW T-Roc)

There’a also a choice of two versions of the turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. The cheaper £21,035, 94bhp version comes as standard with a five-speed manual gearbox. Splash out another £765 and you can get the more powerful 108bhp version which comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is available for an extra 1500 quid.
