Audi SQ2 hot SUV gets facelift 17 | 11 | 2020
AUDI HAS GIVEN its SQ2 ‘hot’ SUV a facelift. The updated version, which will go head-to-head with the likes of the new Cupra Ateca and BMW X2 M35i, is available to order now with prices starting from £38,700. First deliveries are scheduled for early 2021. (Related: Audi Q2 gets sporty facelift)
Mirroring the standard Q2, the SQ2 now gets new LED headlights. There’s also a redesigned front bumper with broader air intakes, plus a new radiator grille. Changes at the rear include a redesigned diffuser which houses the SUV’s quad-exit exhaust system, plus a fresh pair of LED tail lights.
There’s very little change in the cabin, apart from a few upholstery and trim tweaks. But the principal improvement is the fact the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster — which previously was an option on its predecessor — as standard. This is supplemented by a slightly larger 8.3-inch infotainment system, which is operated via a rotary dial on the centre console.
The updated SQ2 is available in three trim options: the base-model, the SQ2 Black Edition and the flagship SQ2 Vorsprung. (Related: Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron concept)
The entry-level model gets leather and Alcantara-trimmed sports seats, plus 18in alloys. The SQ2 Black Edition adds a gloss black radiator grille surround, gloss black mirror caps and black chrome exhaust tips; plus matte black replacements for the front skid plate, air intakes and rear diffuser. There’s also 19in alloys.
Step up to the range-topping Vorsprung spec and buyers get heated Nappa leather sports seats, a panoramic glass sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen stereo system and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Outside there’s exclusive alloy wheels, scrolling indicators and upgraded Matrix LED headlights. (Related: Audi Q4 e-tron concept)
The flagship model also benefits from a raft of new safety technology, including Audi’s adaptive cruise assist, which can assume control of the car’s throttle, braking and steering under motorway conditions, providing the driver grips the steering wheel. There’s also rear cross-traffic assist and a blind spot monitoring system. (Related: Audi Q5 55 TFSI e gets all-electric range)
Mechanically the facelifted SQ2 is identical to its predecessor. That means 296bhp from the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Audi quotes 0–62mph in 4.9-seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
The same all-wheel-drive system and seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox are retained, though the latest version benefits from a longer seventh gear — which the Audi says has improved the SUV’s fuel economy — plus a slightly lighter clutch. The company quotes 34mpg on the WLTP combined cycle, with 188g/km CO2 emissions.
