Sportier Alpine A110S gets 288bhp 15 | 06 | 2019

ALPINE HAS REVEALED its much anticipated A110S. It’'s due to arrive at Scotland’s solus Alpine dealer, Arnold Clark, in October. Boasting an uprated 1.8-litre engine and myriad chassis tweaks, the Porsche Cayman rival gets more power and bespoke suspensions settings for a more focused feel. The result is a better power to weight ratio, which shaves one-tenth of a second off the 0-62mph time than the existing Alpine variants; the new model stops the clock at just 4.4 seconds. The new model retains the seven-speed automatic gearbox from the standard Alpine.

“From the very inception of the Alpine project, it has been our intention to offer different versions of the A110 with handling and performance characteristics of their own,” Sebastien Erphelin, Alpine MD, said. “The A110S delivers an intense Alpine driving experience.”

Built around a reworked version of the 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, with the turbo boost pressure increased by 0.4 bar, the new A110S sees power increase by 49bhp to 288bhp. That max arrives at 6400rpm, 400rpm higher than previously.

And while the A110 S adds new stiffer coil suspension springs, retuned dampers and firmer anti-roll bars, it retains the same aluminium body; it does though have s a different chassis configuration.

To increase stability, ride height has been lowered by 4mm. The A110 S also gets new wheels, plus new bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres (215mm at the front, 245mm at the rear) for increased mechanical grip.

When it comes to stopping the new model, the car is fitted as standard with Brembo brake calipers with 320mm bi-material discs. These are available as an option on other A110 models. Alpine has also reworked the electronic stability control.

The A110 S — as you might expect — features a number of bespoke styling elements to set it apart from other models in the range. The most striking are the unique GT Race alloy wheels, orange and carbon fibre flag details on the C-pillar, and the orange brake callipers.

The orange theme continues inside, where orange stitching is used for the lightweight Sabelt suede-style seats. These are complemented by the similarly-trimmed steering wheel with orange 12 o’clock marker. The A110S also gets special upholstery for the roof lining, sun visors and door panels. Plus the car is available with a new Gris Tonnerre matt grey paint finish. Alpine’s telemetrics system, parking sensors and a Focal stereo are also all standard kit.

The options list includes special seat belts with a carbon fibre finish, Fuchs forged alloy wheels and a gloss carbon fibre roof.

UK prices have yet to be confirmed, but the car will cost €66,500 in France. That equates to around £60k. The standard model costs from £46,905. The A110 S is available to order now on via the Alpine App, with first cars appearing in showrooms in October. Full details can be had from Scotland’s solus Alpine dealer, Arnold Clark.
