All-new Mazda3 to debut in LA  08 | 11 | 2018

MAZDA HAS CONFIRMED it will unveil its all-new Mazda3 hatchback and saloon at the LA Motor Show later this month. The car, which is set to go head-to-head with the VW Golf, will make its public debut on November 28. It will go on-sale at Scottish dealerships next year. A new ‘moody’ teaser image (main picture above) released today — which shows the rear ends of both bodystyles — confirms the newcomer will  inspiration from the Kai concept car (pictured below) shown at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

While Mazda is understandably keeping its cards close to its chest, the fourth-generation Mazda3 will introduce the Japanese manufacturer’s new Skyactiv-X vehicle architecture. Designed to be fitted with its new  compression-ignition petrol engine, the new technology is expected to eventually result in ending diesel power in Mazda cars. Utilising something called Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SCCI), Mazda claims the technology will deliver petrol-like performance with diesel fuel economy.

The company claims “fundamental performance attributes have been raised to a new level”,  and Mazda as emphasised the new model will not only deliver an improvement in quality — aimed at moving the car more upmarket — but it will also be more refined and sporty. What is also clear from today’s teaser is the hatch closely resembles the Kai concept. Its sharp styling was a real head turner when it was unveiled last yea at Tokyo.

Measuring 4420mm long, 1855mm wide and 1375mm tall, it’s marginally longer, wider and lower than the current Mazda 3, and boasts a 50mm longer wheelbase. There’s likely to be more space in the cabin due to the wheels being pushed further towards the four corners. That’s also likely to enhance the five-seater’s handling.
