New Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid 08 | 05 | 2018

PORSCHE HAS FURTHER expanded its third-generation Cayenne range with the introduction of the new E-Hybrid model. With an all-electric range of 27 miles, and a 0-62mph faster than the petrol-ply Cayenne S, the E-Hybrid is available to order now from Scottish dealerships priced from £67,128. Delivering greater performance and efficiency compared to the previous model, the new E-Hybrid boasts significant updates to both the petrol and electric motors. While the 3.0-litre turbo V6 petrol now pumps out 335bhp, an increase of 7bhp over the previous model, the biggest gain comes from the latest electric motor which is 43% more powerful, now delivering 135bhp. The combined 456bhp and 700Nm means the latest Cayenne E-Hybrid cover the 0-62mph sprint in 5.0 seconds - marginally faster than the petrol-only Cayenne S. Top speed is 157mph, which is 7mph shy of the Cayenne S.

Capable of 84mph on electric power only, the E-Hybrid has an EV range of 27 miles. Charging takes 2.3 hours from a 32-amp charger, or 7 hours 48 minutes via a 10-amp socket.

Utilising a system derived from the Porsche 918 hypercar, the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s boost strategy allows it to deploy maximum torque from the electric motor under hard acceleration. This ensures a near-instant throttle response. It’s further aided by a new clutch system, which reacts more quickly when both engaging and disengaging the electric modes. As across the rest of the new Cayenne range, the E-Hybrid is fitted with a new eight-speed transmission which delivers quicker shifts than previously.

It’s also worth emphasising the Porsche Charging Service gives owners access to public charging stations through a wide range of local networks without the need to log into each individual provider. Billing is delivered directly through a Porsche ID account, which can be monitored through the Porsche Connect smartphone app. The app also allows the driver to operate the climate control remotely.

Like the rest of the new Cayenne range, the E-Hybrid rides on a modified version of the VW group’s MLB platform, also used by the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus. Porsche’s adaptive suspension system is fitted as standard, while an active roll stabilisation system, as used by the SQ7 and Bentayga, is optional.

The E-Hybrid is instantly recognisable from the rest of the comprehensive Cayenne range thanks to its bright lime-coloured brake calipers and unique badging.
