PORSCHE SURPRISED THE press at today’s opening of the Geneva Motor Show by unveiling an all-electric estate concept called the Mission E Cross Turismo. (Related: Goodwood focus for Porsche 70th)

Based, as you would expect, on the German sportscar maker’s first EV model due in 2019 the new concept adds a larger boot to boost practicality. It also sits higher off the ground than the regular Mission E, allowing for a degree of off-road capability. The Cross Turismo also gets more emphasised wheel arch surrounds. Describing the concept as a car to "fuse Mission E design with Panamera Sport Turismo off-road touches”, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume went on to say there’s a "good proposal for series production very soon".

Porsche says the Cross Turismo is capable of 0-62mph in 3.5sec and a top speed of 155mph. It is claimed to be capable of a 62-mile range from a four minute charge.

No specific power details have been released for the new concept, but it’s naturally expected to follow that of the Porshe Mission E concept which used two electric motors, one on each axle. Drawing their power from lithium ion batteries mounted in the floor, combined, the two motors produced 600bhp and 663lb/ft torque.

All-wheel drive was also fitted to the Mission E concept. While the handling remained rear-biased, with torque vectoring controlling individual wheels, power to the front wheels was essentially aimed at aiding acceleration.
