New Hyundai i20 starts at £13,995 25 | 06 | 2018

HYUNDAI HAS CONFIRMED its all-new i20 — on-sale now at Scottish dealerships — will start from £13,995, a rise of almost £2000 on the outgoing model. The entry-level car will be fitted with the same 74bhp 1.2-litre petrol as the previous model. (Related: Hyundai reveals all-electric Kona)

Significantly though, the new model comes with a noticeable increase in ‘standard’ equipment. All i20 models now feature a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system — complete with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto — as standard, plus a reversing camera and Bluetooth. The S trim also gets air conditioning and auto headlights as standard.

Buyers stepping up to the new SE trim — which starts a £15,495, an increase of £1480 over the previous version — benefit from a rat of new safety equipment. Autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, driver attention alert and high beam assist are all fired as standard. And in addition to the S spec, the SE adds alloy wheels, front fog lamps, cruise control, rear parking sensors and rear electric windows.

The new i20 range is completed by the Premium Nav and Premium SE Nav models. Starting from £16,245, the former features 16in alloys, satnav, LED tail lights, all-round parking sensors, and climate control. Costing an extra £1050, the Premium SE Nav adds a panoramic sunroof, a push-button start and a heated steering wheel and front seats.

Engines? They remain the same as the previous model. There’s no diesel, as it was dropped in the middle of last year. So there’s a choice of 1.2-litre petrol with either 74bhp or 83bhp, and 1.0-litre turbo with either 99bhp or 118bhp. The range also includes the option of a new auto, a seven speed twin-clutch automatic. Available on the 99bhp version of the 1.0-litre, it’s a £1250 option.
