Powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 producing 444bhp, the new RS5 Coupe allows the car to sprint from standstill to 62mph in just 3.9-seconds, 0.7s faster than its predecessor. Fit the optional limiter and the car will carry on to an eye-watering 174mph.

The new model is also more efficient, managing 32.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 197g/km, which is 17% better than the old V8 model. Those saving are aided by the car tipping the scales at 1655kg, 60kg lighter than the outgoing model.

Power is transmitted via an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox to all four wheels. With a power distribution of 40:60, most of the power heads to the rear wheels.

Audi is also offering an optional sport differential, and a multi-link suspension set-up on the rear replaces the trapezoidal-link from the previous model.

Also on the option list are include dynamic ride control with sports suspension, ceramic brakes and revised steering that’s unique to the RS model. And as you would expect, drivers can select from several driving modes to suit the road.

Standard on the new RS5 Coupe are Audi’s excellent Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display, as well as the quattro sport rear differential.
Externally the new model get a racy black honeycomb grille flanked by two large, angular air vents.

Wider wheelarches accentuate the RS5’s stance, a look which is further boosted by new five spoke 19in alloys. If that’s not big enough, larger 20in wheels are on the options list. Elsewhere, the signature oval tailpipes, alongside a new rear diffuser and a small bootlid lip spoiler remain.

Inside the cabin there are sports seats with optional diamond stitching, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a number of subtle RS logos around the cabin.
