The 1,000,000th Porsche 911 12 | 05 | 2017

FIFTY-FOUR YEARS after the first 911 rolled off the production line, Porsche has revealed the one-millionth 911 to be built at its plant in Zuffenhausen. And the historic car will compete a tour through the Scottish Highlands before it goes on permanent display at the Porsche Museum. (Related: Franchitti reveals Porsche LM24 plan)

The one-off Porsche 911 Carrera S — commissioned by Porsche — was treated to a number of special upgrades in honour of the extraordinary milestone.

Immediately noticeable is the ‘Irish Green’ paint job, in reference to founder Ferdinand Porsche’s son Ferry, whose first official 911 was green.

Elsewhere there are a number of special design elements which allude to the very first car from 196. Refined by bespoke personalisation department Porsche Exclusive, the sports steering wheel on the one-millionth 911 not only has a mahogany rim, but features the 1964 Porsche crest, which also takes pride of place on the bonnet.

A ‘1,000,000’ logo also appears inside and out, and is also placed within the instrument cluster and on the B-pillars.

Inside the cabin, the leather seats feature a pepita pattern found  on the original, while the circular dashboard instruments are finished with silver surround in a similar vein to the early models.

Perhaps not surprisingly, there are a few wee tweaks under the bonnet, with the engine being tuned to deliver 445bhp. This has reduced the 0-62mph time to 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 194mph.

“Fifty-four years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father,” Porsche Chairman Dr Wolfgang Porsche (pictured), speaking at Zuffenhausen, where the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are also built, said. “The feeling of being in a 911 is just as enjoyable now as it was then.

“That’s because the 911 has ensured the core values of our brand are as visionary today as they were in the first Porsche 356/1 from 1948.”

Before touring the Highlands, the one-millionth 911 will also visit the Nurburgring, the United States and China before going on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
