Record year for Lamborghini  17 | 03 | 2017

LAMBORGHINI HAS RECORDED record figures for 2016. The 12 months saw the Italian supercar builder sell more cars than ever before, and exceed €900 million in turnover. (Related: Lamborghini Edinburgh)

Sales rose 7%, from 3245 to 3457, marking the sixth year in succession of growth. Turnover grew by 4%, from €872m to €906m.

As Lamborghini prepares to launch its first SUV, the Urus, staffing levels at the Sant'Agata company have also increased from 1298 to 1415.

While the USA remain the largest single market with 1250 units sold, all major sales regions —Europe, Middle East, Africa, America and Asia Pacific — set new records and contributed to the sales growth.

Thanks to the Huracán model (Huracán Performante, pictured above), 2016 was the most successful yet in Lamborghini's history for V10 sales. A total of 2353 units, up from 2242 in 2015, of the Huracán Coupé and Spyder were delivered to customers. The 12-cylinder model Aventador increased from 1003 units in 2015 to 1104 units in 2016.

In 2016, five new models were launched. The Centenario Coupé and the Centenario Roadster were presented as a limited series in memory of the anniversary of company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini.

Other special series included the Huracán Avio and the Aventador Miura Homage, which was conceived in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Miura, the ancestor of all Lamborghini V12 super sports cars.

The new Lamborghini Huracán Rear Wheel Drive Spyder was launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show last November, followed by the new Aventador S (main picture).

In the build-up to the launch of the Urus next year — the SUV will be the third model in Lamborghini's product range — production facilities at Sant' Agata will almost double from 80,000 to 150,000 m2. Production capacity will double to 7000 units per year.

"Lamborghini realized another record year and we are once more outperforming our planned figures,” Stefano Domenicali (pictured above), Lamborghini chairman and CEO said. “In the face of the biggest expansion in our company's long history, in the build-up of our product portfolio, our development and production capacities, we are introducing fascinating new products, creating new jobs and increasing our profitability. All of this could not have been done without our excellent team that deserves all the credit."
