Nairn cooks up success with Volvo 11 | 12 | 2017

SCOTS CELEBRITY CHEF Nick Nairn is celebrating 10 years cooking up a driving success with Volvo. The chef and restaurateur has held a long-standing partnership with Volvo since 2007, and says his seven-seat XC90 is the perfect business and family car. (Related: Roadtest — Volvo XC90)

Having taken delivery of his first XC90 in 2007, Nairn has said goodbye to his sports and saloon cars in favour of Volvo’s luxury seven-seat SUV because it rolls performance, space and style into one car, capable of tackling any challenge.

“The XC90 is more than just a car to me, my business and my family,” he explained. “Every week I drive a 270-mile round trip between the two Nick Nairn cook schools in Aberdeen and Port of Menteith, normally with 7ft-long tables, chairs, ingredients, cooking equipment – even ovens – yet the car is so cavernous there’s ample space to fit it all in. “As well as the space, the XC90’s comfort, performance and connectivity are world-class. With the IntelliSafe technology, its supporting systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Aid ensure I arrive at my destination refreshed and relaxed because I know everything is working together so seamlessly to keep me safe on the roads.

“Inside, the car’s ergonomic massaging seats are just the icing on the cake – I’ve not experienced comfort quite like it. I have a bad back and it allows me to emerge easily and stand up straight.”

The decade-long partnership with Nairn not only highlights the impressive versatility of the XC90 SUV, it also reflects two brands who put the customer at the core of their businesses.

Through his self-titled cook schools, Nairn and his team offer the very best in culinary tuition, produce, facilities and locations to deliver a customer experience that’s second to none.

Set up in 2000 with a simple aim to get more people cooking by giving them the skills to be able to turn great raw ingredients into great food, his acclaimed cookery schools have helped nearly 100,000 people develop their culinary prowess.

“A few years back, I was asked to do a five-day road show event across London, travelling more than 1500 miles along the way, and completed 15 cooking demos and 45 dishes literally out of the back of my XC90 with a mobile kitchen,” he explained. “I can honestly say I wouldn’t have done it with any other car.”

Nairn’s decade-long relationship with Volvo was praised by Elaine Johnstone, regional leasing manager, Volvo Car UK.

“As a businessman and a family-man, Nick’s busy schedule is the perfect example of how the XC90 can adapt to any situation,” Johnstone said.

“Whether he is transporting food and kitchen equipment or taking mountain bikes, luggage and the whole family on holiday, the car always delivers and exudes a premium, eye-catching style wherever it goes.”

Through the partnership, Volvo employees and guests have been able to enjoy expertly led cookery classes from Nairn and his team at his stunning Port of Menteith location, right in the heart of the Trossachs, using ingredients from Scotland’s fabulous natural larder.
