Sporty 2018 Nissan Leaf teased 07 | 08 | 2017

NISSAN IS SET to ditch the current styling of its all-electric Leaf with a significantly more sporty, aerodynamic look for its second-generation, as hinted at in this teaser image.

Set to be officially unveiled on September 6, before going on-sale in Scotland next year, the new all-electric Leaf hatchback — which will be heavily influenced by the latest Micra — has been engineered to increase the range to around 340 miles.

That figure would more than double the range of the current Leaf, and beat the class-leading Renault Zoe by about 90 miles. The largest battery could double the 30kWh lithium ion pack found in the highest-spec version of the current Leaf.

Nissan will sell its latest plug-in all-electric car with a number of battery pack options allowing it to marker the Leaf with a variety of specs, as Tesla does with its models.

Autonomous driving will also feature heavily in the latest Leaf. Nissan will fit the model with its newest autonomous technology, Pro Pilot Park. This allows the car to park itself in parallel, angled, front or straight back-in parking spots, handling throttle, braking and steering input.

The class-leading park assist system will form part of the Japanese car maker’s Propilot tech, which also includes a single-lane semi-autonomous feature.

Nissan will focus on the latest Leaf to fuel its charge to growing electric vehicles to represent 20% of its sales by 2020.
