BP to instal EV charging points 03 | 08 | 2017

OIL GIANT BP is understood to be holding talks with car electric car manufacturers which would lead to charging points being installed across its UK network. The company has more than 3100 filling stations across the UK.

BP is the latest oil company, following decisions by Shell and Total, to introduce battery charging points as Europe’s biggest oil groups react to rising sales of electric vehicles.

“We have discussions going on with a lot of the EV manufacturers to have a tie-up with our retail network for charging,” Bob Dudley, BP’s chief executive, said.

The development comes in the wake of the Government’s announcement last week that it plans to ban sales of all new petrol and diesel cars from 2040.

That highlighted the fact the EV charging point infrastructure across the whole of the UK needs to grow rapidly. Already the Government has taken action by dealing in the Queen’s Speech that filling stations on the country’s motorway network will have to install charging points.
