Ford unveils five-door Fiesta ST 27 | 09 | 2016

SCOTTISH FORD DEALERS have launched the new Ford Fiesta ST five-door. Priced at £18,495, it’s just 600 quid more than the three-door model, which ha proved such  success.

Utilising exactly the same drivetrain and chassis set-up as the three-door ST, the five-door gets a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine which produces 180bhp and 177lb/ft of torque.

And while it also matches the three-door’s 0-62mph sprint time of 6.9sec, the five-door’s extra weight sees combined economy dip slightly from  47.9mpg to 46.3mpg. CO2 emissions also rise by 3g to 141g/km.

Ford predicts the new five-door will account for 25% of ST sales; that’s in contrast to the rest of the Blue Oval-badged car maker’s Fiesta range where 64% are for the five-door model.

“Ford has now sold more than 38,000 Fiesta STs in Europe since we introduced the acclaimed hot hatchback in 2013,” Ford of Europe’s marketing, sales and service vice president Roelant de Waard, said.

“Growing numbers of customers have been asking us for a five-door version, and the new Fiesta ST five-door makes an affordable Ford Performance driving experience accessible to an even greater number of customers.”

The company though has confirmed its more focused Fiesta ST200 won’t be offered in five-door guise. The next-generation Fiesta will again be available in both three and five-door bodystyles.
