Ferrari unveils 'new' FF 08 | 02 | 2016

FERRARI HAS UNVEILED its facelifted four-wheel drive FF ahead of its debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show. And it's been rebadged: the 2016 version has been named the Ferrari GTC4Lusso (see more photographs of the new Ferrari GTC4Lusso).

The newcomer gets a range of subtle styling upgrades to distinguish it from the FF, and Ferrari says the GTC4Lusso will be aimed at a younger audience than the brand has traditionally been used to.

Externally, new aerodynamic improvements mean a a new front grille with integrated air intakes, new air vents on the rear wing, a roof-mounted rear spoiler and a new diffuser.

The result, according to Ferrari, is a drag coefficient “substantially lower” than the FF.

Power comes from the same 6.2-litre V12 engine already fitted to the FF, but the output has been increased from 651bhp to 680bhp. That power is channelled to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The GTC4Lusso is also quicker than the FF: well, 0.3secs faster to 62mph, eclipsing the 3.7s of the FF. Top speed remains unchanged at 208mph.

And while Ferrari has yet to reveal what the GTC4Lusso's fuel economy or CO2 figures are — the FF achieves 18.3mpg and 360g/km respectively — the newcomer does get rear-wheel steering for the first time.

Inside the understandably sumptuous four-seat cabin, the star attraction is a new infotainment system — boasting a 10.25in screen — which has been developed by Delphi, but remains compatible with Apple CarPlay.

Ferrari’s dual cockpit display, which allows passengers to see speed and engine information from their side of the cabin, now appears to show a g-force meter, which is a first in a Ferrari.

Thanks to a more compact airbag, there's also a smaller steering wheel including “more ergonomic” controls, such as a redesigned Manettino control and new buttons for the hands-free telephone system.

And in terms of fine detail, the GTC4Lusso gets a recess between the seats specifically to hold the key during driving, something the FF didn't have.

Ferrari has yet to announce he price of the GTC4Lusso, but it's unlikely to be lower than the current FF, which costs from £226,023.
