Above the entry spec, the new Hyundai i10 in SE trim — featuring a suite of driver assists as standard, plus  cruise control, DAB radio, Bluetooth and air conditioning — starts from £10,500.

The SE also comes with the choice of a second engine, the more powerful 87bhp 1.2-litre four-cylinder; this power plant is also available as a four-speed automatic.

Next up is the Premium spec which starts at £11,200, with the range-topping Premium SE cars — which include a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen screen — priced from £12,800.

The infotainment system features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as its own sat-nav system. Cars fitted with the system get a free seven-year subscription to a real-time traffic, speed camera and weather information service. Buyers will also get new colour options for the upholstery.

Safety is paramount on the new i10, which includes a front collision warning system, and a lane departure warning, both using a new front-mounted camera.

Externally the most noticeable styling change is the updated grille, which Hyundai calls its “cascading grille”. Expect to see more of it as the ocean car manufacturer is set to use it on all future models.

Bigger than the model it replaces, the new i10 also gets  anew front bumper, plus there’s a black section on the rear bumper, new fog lights and different-shaped side mouldings.
