Jonny gets Aston works' drive 28 | 08 | 2015

FIFER JONNY ADAM will race a works' GTE Pro class Aston Martin in the World Endurance Championship for the first time at the Nurburgring, in Germany, this weekend.

The 30-year-old from Kirkcaldy will partner Aston Martin stalwarts Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke in the No 77 Vantage GTE in the six-hour race.

Adam's promotion to the top level of world sportscars follows a test outing during free practice in the same car at the Spa WEC round in May.

It will also be the former British GT champ's first race in the world championship since two late-season appearances aboard a GTE Am Aston in 2013.

"The GTE version of the Vantage has slightly less power but more aerodynamic grip than the GT3 car," Adam (pictured), who won the second British GT race at Snetterton last weekend in his regular Beechdean Aston V12 Vantage, said today, "so you have to be very precise and understand how to consistently extract the best from it across every lap.

"That suits my driving style and I know the Nurburgring GP circuit having been there already this year, so hopefully I can play my part in delivering a strong result for AMR in what is one of the biggest events on the calendar.

“I know Darren and Stefan well and couldn’t be joining two better guys for this race. We have to be aiming for a podium and to try and secure as many manufacturer points as possible for Aston Martin Racing."

Adam — just two points off the lead of this year's British GT Championship with just one round remaining — is set to graduate to an international programme in 2016.

It's expected he will compete in the European Le Mans Series, with the Beechdean squad whose owner Andrew Howard has purchased a V8 GTE.
