New Viva on sale next summer 11 | 09 | 2014

VAUXHALL IS TO introduce a new low-cost city car which will carry the badge, Viva. Described as "an all-new five-door entry-level model", the Viva (pictured) will go on sale across the UK next summer, joining the Adam and Corsa in Vauxhall's revamped line-up.

Though full details are scant, it's expected the Viva — which will be available with either four or five seats — will appear with the same equipment options and trim levels as the Adam supermini.

The Viva name means "long live" in Latin, and pays homage to Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port facility, which built the original Viva from 1963 to 1979.

In the artistically vague image released by Vauxhall, the styling of the Viva — which shares its underpinnings with the next-generation Chevrolet Spark — is mostly hidden. What we can see though is gets the same rounded front-end design as the Adam and Corsa.

It's also likely the powerplants slotted into the VIva will come from the Adam range, which means 1.2 and 1.4-litre petrols, as well as the new 89bhp and 113bhp 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol.

Price? Well that's the big unknown. Apart from Vauxhall saying the price will be e "extremely attractive", we have no real idea. Don't be surprised though to see the Viva go head-to-head with the cars such as the £8595 Hyundai i10.

The new Vauxhall Viva is likely to make its production debut at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
