Top 'green' award for Scots company 20 | 11 | 2014

BRIDGE OF WEIR-BASED Scottish Leather Group — which supplies leather to a number of the world's leading car manufacturers — has won a major award from the Energy Institute in London.

The group scooped the coveted Environmental Award — sponsored by the Environment Agency — and which was presented to Scottish Leather Group by Robert Light, deputy chairman, Environment Agency, alongside the awards’ host, news anchor and broadcaster, Huw Edwards.

“It is an honour for the Scottish Leather Group to be recognised in such prestigious and internationally respected company," Dr. Warren Bowden, group environmental director, said.

"We are immensely proud of our environmental credentials and innovations in manufacturing leather sustainably and absolutely delighted to receive this award from such an esteemed panel of judges.”

Scottish Leather Group secured the award for its low carbon leather against some stiff competition, including Sindicatum Sustainable Resources for its RenewCo projects, SWRP for the Subsea Well Response project and Vital Efficienci for energy savings and ISO 50001 certification at Cancer Research UK’s research laboratory.

Lynda Armstrong OBE FEI, Chair of British Safety Council and formerly of Royal Dutch Shell, where she held operational and management roles in oil and gas exploration for 35 years, chaired this year’s E Awards judging panel which included representatives from across all sectors of the energy industry.

“The EI Awards are a great opportunity to showcase and celebrate the diversity of innovation and excellence in the sector," Armstrong said.

"This year was no exception; we reviewed a large number of applications across the whole spectrum of activities. All of the projects showed the effort in progress to maintain an efficient and dynamic energy industry.”
