Mighty Mercs at Scottish Motor Show 16 | 05 | 2011

MERCEDES WILL use this weekend's Scottish Motor Show at Knockhill to unveil its all-new SLK (pictured) and C-Class Coupe. The two Mercs, which will be joined by a gullwing SLS — the model used as the F1 course car at every grand prix — form part of the exclusive range of cars which will make their first public appearance on Scotland.

While the Mercedes will be housed on the John R Weir stand, British marques of Morgan and Ginetta will also unveil new models.

"This is fantastic news and a further endorsement about the importance manufacturers place on the Scottish Motor Show," Knockhill event director Stuart Gray said. "We have been thrilled to have UK launches in previous shows from manufacturers including Ford, which brought its RS500 Focus straight from Germany, and Peugeot RCZ sports car last year."

Perth-based RPM will feature both Morgan — including the first showing of the unique Morgan 3 wheeler — and Ginetta on their stand of British built cars. RPM will also give the road-going Ginetta G40 sportscar its first UK unveiling.

Continuing the British theme is the first new MG in over 15 years, the MG6 saloon which will feature on the Morrison's of Stirling stand.

In addition, Land Rover will give the public a pre-launch showing of the amazing Evoque, not due out until September, as well as bringing the Land Rover Experience for visitors to have a run in their fleet on the challenging Knockhill 4x4 proving ground.

"To have one of the most important Land Rovers in decades being pre-launched with us is amazing," Gray continued. "Visitors will see and experience the best of British offroad technology and design with the Evoque, and be able to go offroad in the Range Rovers.

"This is what helps make our show a truly interactive event; of course, we've also got our track rides in road cars. We will have over 30 models, from Alfa, Renault, Ford and many other brands are available for visitors to experience first hand."

More than 25manufacturers will be represented at the Scottish Motor Show, three more than 2010. The growth in green cars is also represented with the groundbreaking Nissan Leaf making an appearance. The Leaf is the first commercially available all-electric family car. Honda is also exhibiting its stunning CRZ hybrid sports car amongst a show full of eco-friendly cars.

The 2011 Official Scottish Motor Show will also feature four of the best stunt performers in the world. On four wheels, and sometimes two, Terry Grant and Paul Swift will both perform stunts in cars that will entertain and woo the crowd.

On two wheels, and sometimes just one, ex-world bike stunt champion Kevin Carmichael will add to the drama and excitement with two shows each day.

New for 2011 are the Student Saturday and Ladies Day Sunday themes. Over 50 colleges and universities in Scotland are promoting the show with 15 in attendance to create a direct link between the academic world in Scotland and the motor industry.

This is being co-ordinated by the motor industry bodies of the IMI and SMTA in Scotland, giving students the chance the find out more about the career opportunities within one of the biggest and most important job sectors in Scotland .

Ladies Day Sunday offers the female visitors to the show a chance for a bit of relaxation, pampering and make-over with the help of students from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh .

"We have been working with a number of colleges and universities for years now as they have offered fresh thinking and input into our events and marketing," Gray explained.

"We approached QMU Events Department about the motor show and they suggested the Ladies Day which we think will be a winner. There will even be a record attempt of a Zumba workout, led by a top instructor, on track. It should all be fun and recordbreaking too."

The hhow opens to the public from 10am to 5pm each day (May 21/22), adult admission is £15, concessions £8 and under 12s are free. For full information, check out www.knockhill.com
