SCOTLAND HOSTS THE third round of the British Rally Championship this weekend with the 72nd running of the RSAC Scottish Rally. And former champ David Bogie (pictured above and below) is determined to turn his season round by winning his home event.
“This season in the British hasn’t gone exactly as planned,” the five-times Scottish champ from Dumfries, who won the British title in 2011, admitted today.
“But we’re very comfortable with the stages included in the RSAC Scottish Rally, and we’ll be doing everything we can to win on home soil and kickstart our British campaign.
“The Scottish is always a fantastic event, and I can’t wait for the action to start, especially with the first two stages held in the evening’s failing light.”
Bogie, co-driven by Hawick’s Kevin Rae, will be second off the start ramp in Dumfries on Friday evening behind CA1 team-mate and championship leader Fredrik Ahlin (pictured in action below). The Swede, who has won both opening rounds, will drive an identical Skoda R5 to Bogie.
Around 96 crews will tackle the RSAC Scottish Rally, and the British Rally Championship competitors will immediately head into Greskine Forest as darkness falls to tackle two runs through the 8.8 mile Mount Joe stage.
After returning to the rally’s new HQ in Lockerbie for an overnight halt, competitors from the Scottish Rally Championship join the event on Saturday to contest 43 stage miles of classic Scottish Rally tests such as Twiglees, Castle O’er and Ae before returning to Lockerbie for the finish celebrations at around 2pm.
There is no rest for the BRC crews however as they will head back out to the forests to tackle two more stages in Windyhill and Ae to bring their total up to around 75 competitive miles.
In another new venue for this year’s event, the survivors of the BRC event will then spray the champagne at the ceremonial finish in Moffat, around 5pm.
