The 21-year-old from Forfar, partnered by team-mate Adam Balon in the No1 (#1) Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, prepared by Barwell Motorsport, heads to the Cheshire circuit firmly in the mix to retain the British GT Championship.

“We’ve got two one-hour races this weekend at Oulton, before the final two-hour race at Donington next month, and we’re only 19.5 points off the championship lead,” Mitchell, personally backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky and Lamborghini Edinburgh, said. “There’s a load of points up for grabs over the next three races. This weekend we just need to make sure we finish ahead of our main rivals for the title and close the gap. Do that and we give ourselves a strong chance of winning the title at Donington.

“Of course we know that won’t be easy, because this year especially the standard of competition in the championship is fiercely tough. But Adam and I are certainly up for the challenge.”

Worth highlighting that Barwell’s Lamborghinis have won every race at Oulton since the Huracan’s debut in 2016.

And Mitchell, who finished on the podium last time out at Snetterton — meaning he now needs to serve an extra seven-second ’success penalty’ at the Race 1 pitstop — is looking forward to getting back into action at the 2.69-mile, 17-turn parkland Oulton Park circuit. “We all know how fast Oulton is,” the Scot, a Lamborghini factory driver, in addition to being a member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s elite SuperStars programme, continued.

“It’s a fantastic circuit not just to drive, but to race on, and we know it suits the Lamborghini well. I’m confident we’ll be mixing it at the front of the field in both races.”
