Four Scots in Le Mans line-upposted in LMANS18 | 05 | 2016

FOUR LEADING SCOTS — Ryan Dalziel, Marino Franchitti, Chris Hoy and Jonny Adam — will contest the 84th running of the world’s toughest endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In the official list of entries published by the organisers of the race, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, 60 cars and 180 drivers are listed for the gruelling event, which runs over the famous 8.47-mile circuit at La Sarthe on the weekend of June 18/19.

The four Scots are amongst 34 other Brits on the entry list, alongside 32 from France, 23 from America and 11 from Germany. In total, 27 countries are represented by drivers, with the 60 cars coming from 19 countries, the highest being America with 12 cars.

Airdrie’s Ryan Dalziel, a former winner at Le Mans in the LMP2 class, will partner Brazilian Luis Felipe Derani and Canadian Chris Cumming in the #32 Extreme Speed Motorsports Ligier-Nissan.

Also in LMP2, six-time Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy will make his debut in the race, two years after he drove the circuit for the first time with Scotcars in a Nissan.

The 40-year-old from Edinburgh will drive the #25 Algarve Pro Racing Ligier-Nissan alongside Brit Michael Munemann and Frenchman Andrea Pizzitola.

Much of the attention will be on Bathgate’s Marino Franchitti who leads Ford’s return to Le Mans, 50 years after the Blue Oval badge won the race.

Franchitti partners fellow Brits Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell in the #67 Ford GT, one of four Ford GTs which will race in the ultra-competitive LM GTE Pro class.

Also in LM GTE Pro, British GT champ, Kirkcaldy’s Jonny Adam, will make his debut at Le mans piloting the #97 Aston Martin Racing Vantage with Kiwi Richie Stanaway and Brazilian Fernando Rees.

At the head of the field in LMP1, three-times winner Allan McNish from Dumfries, will helps oversee Audi's bid to deny Porsche a repeat of its overall victory in the 2015 race.
