Shedden starts BTCC opener on front rowposted in BTCC02 | 04 | 2016

SCOT GORDON SHEDDEN will start the defence of his British Touring Car Championship from the front row of the grid when the action starts at Brands Hatch tomorrow.

The 37-year-old from Auchterarder, debuting his all-new Halfords-liveried Honda Civic Type R, clocked his fastest time of 48.053secs but was edged off pole by just 0.063seconds.

"I've got to be happy with that," Shedden, who starts second alongside the Toyota of Tom Ingram, said today. "We always knew qualifying here was going to be close.

"Today was the first time we've seen all the new 2016 cars going flat-out together with no ballast, and to be on the front row of the grid is a great way to start the season.

"Hopefully I can capitalise on the fact Tom will be starting from pole for the first time in his career. Ideally I'll get the jump on him and lead into the first corner."

Shedden's Honda team-mate, triple champ Matt Neal, qualified third, 0.048s behind the Scot and just 0.001s ahead of the BMW of fourth-placed Sam Tordoff.

Aiden Moffat, the 19-year-old from Dalkeith, lines up 17th in his Mercedes after clocking a best time of 48.663s.
