Shedden on brink of BTCC titleposted in BTCC27 | 09 | 2015

FIFER GORDON SHEDDEN heads to the final round of the British Touring Car Championship in a fortnight at Brands Hatch on the brink of clinching his second title.

The 36-year-old from Dalgety Bay left Silverstone, the penultimate round today, leading the championship by 23 points from double champ Jason Plato.

While Ma Jackson, Andy Priaulx and Colin Turkington won the day's three races, it was Shedden who left the Northamptonshire circuit with the biggest smile on his face.

The Scot, who entered the weekend leading Plato's Volkswagen by six points, capitalised on the Oxford driver's retirement in the day's opening race when his car suffered a puncture.

While Plato was left disappointed, the Scot powered his Honda to third in the opener, and followed that with a fourth and a fifth in the following two races.

"I'm delighted with the weekend's points haul," 2012 champ Shedden, whose car carried the maximum 75kg success ballast in the opening race, admitted.

"I've said since the mid-season break that it was crucial I went into the season finale at Brands Hatch being in the mix for the championship, and that's exactly what we've done.

"Sure, we know anything can happen, but we're in a strong position leading by 23 points. Traditionally the Honda's strong at Brands, and hopefully we can do enough to win the title for the second time.

"But I'm taking nothing for granted. I know I'm going to be in for a really tough three races at Brands, but I've been in this position before so fingers crossed we can get the job done."
