Shedden on verge of BTCC crownposted in BTCC09 | 10 | 2015

FIFER GORDON SHEDDEN heads into the final round of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend on the verge of clinching his second title.

The 36-year-old from Dalgety Bay holds a 23-point advantage over the Volkswagen of his nearest rival, double champ Jason Platon.

But Shedden is confident he can power his Honda to the points he needs to joined veteran Scot John Cleland as a double BTCC winner.

“I’m feeling good," Shedden, who in tandem with his team-mate, triple champ Matt Neal, has already clinched the Manufacturers' Championship for Honda, said today.

"I said at the midpoint of the season at Knockhill that it was important to go into the season finale at Brands with a chance of winning the title.

"To be leading the championship is a big, big bonus. But I'm taking absolutely nothing for granted. Brands Hatch is a tough place, and as we know in motorsport, anything can happen."

And the chirpy Scot, who clinched his first BTCC championship with a dominant drive at the Kent circuit in 2012, is looking forward to the challenge.

"Brands is a great circuit," Shedden continued. "It's old-school and a proper drivers’ track, and everybody loves racing there.

"I’m confident our Civic Type R will be awesome again and I’m not feeling any pressure – just excitement. I feel comfortable inside the team and at one with the car.

"I can draw upon our experience from the last few years, I’m relaxed and I’m in a happy place. Sure I’m sure the complexion of the championship will twist and turn quite a bit over the course of the weekend – as it always tends to do – but I’ll just approach it the same way I have all season.

"That’s worked pretty well so far, so I don’t see any reason to change now.”
