Red Bull secures 2016 engine dealposted in F127 | 11 | 2015

RED BULL TEAM boss Christian Horner today confirmed the Milton Keynes-based team has a new power unit agreement in place for the 2016 Formula 1 season.

The new, on the eve of this weekend's F1 finale in Abu Dhabi, comes after an extended period of uncertainty and a troubled period with current supplier Renault.

Ironically, it is the French manufacturer —which itself is hoping to become a works outfit again in 2016 as it completes a takeover of Lotus — with which Red Bull will again form an engine alliance next season.

In essence it had nowhere else to turn, with previous approaches to Mercedes, Ferrari and Honda all being rebuffed.

"Next year will be a transitional year," Horner (pictured with Helmut Marko in Abu Dhabi) admitted today. "We have an agreement with an engine supplier for next year which hopefully will be confirmed in the coming days.

"It will have a development path, which ironically, in a way, is what we were trying to achieve 12 months ago, and we'll see how that goes."
