Hamilton says sorry to team posted in F127 | 07 | 2015

THREE WEEKS AFTER delivering a dominant, fault-free race at Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton held his hands up after the Hungarian Grand Prix and apologised to Mercedes for his "nightmare".

Hamilton, who ironically saw his world championship lead extend to 21 points, despite finishing a disappointing sixth, held his hands up and took full responsibility for his performance.

That performance saw him slow off the line from pole, immediately dropping to fourth before going off at the chicane, running through the gravel and rejoining in 11th.

Having battled back to fourth, and with the pack condensed because of the safety car, the defending world champ then collided with Daniel Ricciardo at the restart. Not only did he need to pit for a new front wing, but he also got a drive-through penalty for causing the incident.

"What a day, that was a hard afternoon," Hamilton admitted. "I definitely had a bad day at the office.

"It was one of the worst races I think I've had, and all I can do is apologise to the team and work hard to make amends at the next race.

"A day like today, when you make mistakes and it affects the team, it hurts."
