'Signs of awakening' for Schueyposted in F104 | 04 | 2014

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER is showing “moments of consciousness and awakening”, his manager, Sabine Kehm, said today.

The news — the most dramatic and optimistic official information for weeks — comes 95 days after the seven-time F1 world champ suffered brain injuries in a skiing accident in the French resort of Méribel.

“Michael is making progress on his journey,” Ms Kehm said in the written statement, which followed reports yesterday that Schumacher’s family was considering moving him from hospital intensive care to a specialist brain-injury rehabilitation centre..

“He shows moments of consciousness and awakening. We are standing by his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and we keep remaining confident.”

Schumacher (45) was placed in a medically-induced coma in intensive care at Grenoble University hospital centre in eastern France to help to reduce swelling on his brain.

It's more than two months since his family said the drugs used to keep him in a coma were being reduced with a view to bringing him back to consciousness.

Ms Kehm thanked fans and well-wishers for their support and appealed for patience about the lack of detail or daily updates on Schumacher’s condition.

“We are very grateful for the continuing sympathy," she said. "At the same time, we ask again for your understanding that we do not want to go into details to protect Michael’s privacy and that of his family and to have the team of doctors to work undisturbed.”
